Eddou XL dissects his own artistry on the meditations EP. As the title suggests, meditations is a sustained reflection on the concept of oneness with sound. Eddou XL explores the inner workings of his own mind and the instruments he uses to create as a recording artist. Samplers and other production tools serve as an extension of Eddou XL’s physical body while the EP itself is an extension of past releases; No Mistakes In Jazz, Refreshments and SP Gillespie offer glimpses of the introspection that is prioritized throughout meditations. From sampling and other forms of tape manipulation to found sounds and original composition, meditations is an inward journey through the heart of a beatmaker in a series of dusty loops. With it comes the dynamic range of the emotion that any heart might possess. Meditations plays with the rhythm of respiration and an air of mysticism but lands, most importantly, with the warmth of an embrace –– straight from Eddou XL’s heart to yours.

“A lot of the meditation I do comes in the form of making beats, where I put the headphones on and go inside myself. And I'd like to think that lends a meditative quality to my work. So for this project, I wanted to lean into that with a batch of beats that showcased a slight-of-hand approach to chopping and a raw sound.”
